Find out how you can help

March for Meals has been an important annual event dedicated to raising awareness about the critical need to support seniors in our community. Now more than ever, our seniors truly need our help! As technology continues to advance rapidly and the world around us becomes increasingly interconnected, it can often leave behind our older adults.

Too often, our seniors are left to live alone, which can be detrimental to their mental and emotional well-being.

For countless recipients who live alone, our dedicated volunteers may be the only people they interact with on a regular basis. Having a brief, friendly conversation each day while they drop off their meal can be just as significant as the meal itself, providing essential social interaction and companionship.

Join us this March to help “End the Wait” for so many seniors who need our help. Sign up and see what it’s like to deliver more than just meal. Your involvement can greatly impact their lives.

Donations truly go a long way in helping us with the vital task of providing nutritious meals to those in need! All our meals are offered at a significantly discounted price and delivered daily by our dedicated and amazing team of volunteers who passionately support our mission. In addition to this, we actively raise funds for our “Angel Meals” program, which is specifically designed to ensure that we can continue providing meals for our homebound recipients who, unfortunately, are no longer able to afford to pay for their meals.

Volunteer

We are delivering over 500 meals in Polk County with the help of local volunteer drivers. Our volunteers do more than deliver food; they take time to connect with those receiving meals. This daily interaction is crucial since many recipients live alone, and senior isolation is a serious issue. A friendly conversation helps them feel cared for and ensures someone is checking on them. There have been instances where volunteers noticed a lack of response at the door and called for help, potentially saving lives. This is why we say we deliver more than just a meal.

Awareness

Meals on Wheels of Polk County is a community funded program. Thanks to donations from our community and partnerships with local businesses, we can offer our meals at a discounted price. As Polk County grows, the demand for our services has increased, leading to some areas being unreachable and people placed on waiting lists. To address this, Meals on Wheels of America has introduced a new campaign, “End the Wait,” to raise awareness about the needs of our senior citizens. Find out how you can help us End the Wait!
